People have appreciated many things about this place. From sunbeds and umbrellas to local foods, the place offers something for everyone. It’s also a great place to surf during low tide; you’ll find plenty of water-related adventure activities, which many reviewers loved. Others have appreciated the open beach, with its sand and tons of activities that are available.

Some visitors disliked the illegal demands for money to access the beach (the beach access is free, at least officially). Plus, some even went as far as to claim they were attacked by a few locals. However, it’s important to note that such incidents are few and far between—most people loved their stay at the place, as the reviews show.

So you don’t have to take our word when we say you’ll love your stay at Dreamland Beach.

What Did Visitors Like About Dreamland Beach?

Dreamland Beach

Here are the things the visitors loved the most about the Dreamland Beach in Bali:

• Stunning Natural Beauty: Visitors consistently rave about the clear waters and golden sands that make Dreamland Beach a visual treat. In other words, it’s a scenic coastline with a stunning visual appeal that can’t be found anywhere else. The pristine shoreline and the breathtaking cliffs offer a perfect backdrop for those Instagram-worthy shots.

Last but not least, you have stunning rock formations along the shoreline, creating a beautiful spot for all your photography and relaxation.

• Surfing Paradise: With its big waves, Dreamland Beach is a haven for all surf enthusiasts. Whether you're a pro or just a newbie looking to have some fun in the water, the waves here have something for everyone.

It helps that there’s no dearth of surfing schools and rental shops to grab surfing equipment. So, even if you feel out of breath on your own, help is always available.

• Spectacular Sunsets: Dreamland Beach transforms into a magical setting as the day winds down, making it a perfect spot for romantic evenings or peaceful contemplation. The spectacular sunset views have left many visitors in awe.

Some visitors have described how simply relaxing in the soft, clear sand. At the same time, they watch an unobstructed sunset in the evening, which is a serene moment for them.

• Cleanliness and Maintenance: Several visitors have noted that the beach is clean and well-maintained, enhancing the overall customer experience.

Luckily for visitors, high standards for cleanliness don’t stop at the beach; they also go way beyond the beach waters. Despite the heavy crowd, the water is as clear as it comes on a commercial beach, which greatly boosts the visitors' experience at Dreamland Beach.

• Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite some reports of crowds, many visitors find Dreamland Beach less crowded and more peaceful than other popular Bali beaches, allowing for a more relaxed beach day.

And then you add the great, clear sand and water into the mix, and the visitors are bound to have a good time.

• Affordable Dining Options: D'land Resto & Bar, located on the beach, offers an affordable menu, allowing visitors to enjoy local cuisine without breaking the bank. There are many affordable cafes and warungs at the place as well, offering travelers everything from traditional Balinese food to regular fast food.

What Did Visitors Dislike About Dreamland Beach?

While you just saw how great the place is and how loved it is by so many, not everything is appreciated about Dreamland Beach. Here’s everything that visitors didn’t like about the place in Bali:

• Overcrowding Issues: Many visitors, especially those who came on weekends, found the beach overcrowded. The presence of numerous surfers and vendors can sometimes detract from the peaceful beach experience.

It also doesn’t help that the beach area is limited in space, which can make the beach feel overcrowded even with just a few visitors.

• Cleanliness Concerns: Despite some positive reviews about cleanliness, frequent complaints about litter and plastic waste on the beach indicated inconsistent maintenance. This is particularly true during times of heavy crowds when some travelers might throw or leave the trash behind just out of carelessness—only to spoil the beach for others.

However, this can be easily resolved through just a little diligence on the part of the local staff.

• Strong Currents and Rough Waves: While great for surfing, the powerful currents and high waves make swimming dangerous for many visitors, especially those with children or weak swimmers. Heck, we’d even go as far as to say that the surfing environment is only suitable for mid to pro surfers, as the waves here can be pretty overwhelming for beginners as well.

• Overpriced Services: Many visitors felt that the beach amenities, such as sunbeds and restaurant services, were overpriced for the quality of services provided. Many travelers felt that because Dreamland Beach is a popular destination, and with the huge number of travelers gathering here, the local owners have gone full in on exploitive pricing for their services.

• Lack of Facilities: There were complaints about the lack of proper facilities, including clean toilets and showers. Some have also noted a lack of infrastructure for things like seating and shaded areas (to sit under during a scorching sun), which can ruin an otherwise wonderful experience at the beach.

• Vendor Harassment: Some visitors reported constant harassment from local vendors and masseuses, which detracted from their relaxation. While people trying to sell services is understandable and even appreciated, the overtly aggressive selling experienced by many was a deal-breaker, especially considering the travelers were at Beachland Beach for relaxation and enjoyment.

• Accessibility Issues: Some visitors found the beach's location and access points inconvenient, involving steep climbs that are not suitable for all. Apparently, as per the reviews, this was a massive problem for people with mobility issues.

Similarly, the parking issues were also prominent, with many complaining about the small parking area and its considerable distance from the beach.

• Environmental Concerns: Some visitors noted an unpleasant smell and overall environment, possibly due to pollution and lack of proper waste management. Others also mentioned issues with environmental damage, especially to the coral reefs and marine life at the place.

Plus, with the heavy tourism going on, it’s only going to get worse and worse, destroying the things that drew people to the place in the first place.

Pro-Tips to Keep in Mind While Visiting Dreamland Beach

Now that you have some idea about Dreamland Beach, you’re more than prepared to enjoy your stay at the place. But some cool hacks will be more than enough to help you make the most of your trip to the place. Here they are:

• Swimming Safety: Due to its strong currents and high waves, the beach is unsuitable for beginner swimmers; it's best suited for experienced surfers. There are lifeguards at the place, sure, but as you can probably guess, they’re easily outnumbered by the number of visitors there.

So we suggest you be vigilant and don’t take things lightly when in water. In action, among other things, this might mean not going into the deeper parts of the water or getting into strong waves.

• Hidden Charges: Be aware of potential extra charges for amenities. Remember that access to all beaches in Bali is always free. And if someone asks you to pay, they almost always enter illegal territory. Never pay to enter a beach; report anyone who tries to make you do so.

Similarly, as discussed above, the local eateries might try to overcharge you for regular food, so stay alert.

• Accessibility: The beach is not wheelchair accessible and lacks shade, so come prepared with umbrellas or other sun protection. As the path to the beach is a bit uneven, make sure you also come packed with proper footwear, such as sports or hiking shoes.

• Swimming Ability: If you're not a strong swimmer, it's best to avoid going into the water and enjoy the beach from the shore. The waves on the beach truly do have a life of their own, so we’d only suggest that advanced swimmers check out the place.

Deep-Dive into finer aspects of Dreamland Beach

You’ve probably gotten a good idea about the place by now, but that’s barely enough. To make some sort of final decision, you need to have a real grasp of the place. Here’s our deep dive to help you learn all you need to know about Dreamland Beach:

Is It Overcrowded at Dreamland Beach?

Dreamland Beach can get quite crowded, especially on the weekends. Many visitors have reported that the beach is often packed with tourists, particularly noting large groups of Chinese tourists who were sometimes described as noisy and disrespectful. The presence of many surfers and vendors also adds to crowding.

However, some visitors still find it less crowded compared to other famous Bali beaches, so your experience may vary depending on when you visit.

Is Dreamland Beach Expensive?

Unfortunately, many visitors find Dreamland Beach to be on the expensive side. There's an entry fee of 2,000 IDR for beach clean-up, although some visitors noted that the beach wasn't clean despite this charge. Sunbeds are priced at around 100,000 IDR each, which many found overpriced. The restaurant on the beach is also reported to be very expensive.

Even the toilets come with a fee of 3,000 IDR and are often described as tiny and not clean. Some visitors noted that prices seem to change daily, adding to the frustration.

How Is the Local Staff at Dreamland Beach?

The feedback about the local staff at Dreamland Beach is largely negative. For example, many visitors reported rude behavior from the women collecting money at the entrance. There were also complaints about the lack of lifeguards, which is a significant safety concern given the strong currents.

Restaurant service was often described as slow, and many visitors felt harassed by persistent vendors and masseuses. Some visitors even reported feeling discriminated against when it came to charging for amenities.

Is It Couple-Friendly?

Despite some drawbacks, Dreamland Beach is frequently a great spot for couples. Unlike some of Bali's more bustling beaches, the beach offers a relatively quiet and serene environment. The beautiful views and spectacular sunsets create a romantic atmosphere many couples appreciate. It's particularly ideal for couples who enjoy surfing or watching the sunset together.

The less crowded nature of the beach (at certain times) also offers more privacy for couples looking for a peaceful getaway.

Is It Family-Friendly?

Unfortunately, Dreamland Beach is not considered very family-friendly. The large waves and strong currents make it unsafe for children to swim. Many visitors have reported that the beach is often littered with garbage, which is not ideal for families. The presence of touts and reports of robbery incidents also make it less suitable for family visits. The beach infrastructure, including old and dirty toilets, adds to the challenges for families.

The steep stairs required to access the beach can be particularly difficult for families with infants or young children.

How's the Food at Dreamland Beach?

The food situation at Dreamland Beach receives mixed reviews. Many visitors enjoyed the offerings at the public beach bar and local shops. Some particularly praised the Indonesian wrap at the beach bar. Visitors also mentioned enjoying Bintang (local beer) at the local restaurant. Delicious fruit juices, nasi goreng (fried rice), and mie goreng (fried noodles) were available at reasonable prices.

However, some found the restaurant on the beach to be costly, so it's worth checking prices before ordering.

Location of the Activity & How to Get There from Key Areas

Dreamland Beach is located on the Bukit Peninsula in southern Bali, Indonesia. Here are the approximate distances from some key locations:

Ubud: About 50 km (31 miles), roughly a 1.5-hour drive
Seminyak: About 20 km (12.5 miles), roughly a 45-minute drive
Kuta: About 15 km (9.3 miles), roughly a 35-minute drive

From most areas in southern Bali, the easiest way to reach Dreamland Beach is by car or motorbike. If you're not comfortable driving in Bali, you can hire a driver or use ride-hailing apps like Grab or GoJek. Here are some options:

• From Ubud: Take the Ngurah Rai Bypass south, then follow signs to Uluwatu/Dreamland Beach.

• From Nusa Dua: Take Jl. Nusa Dua Selatan west, then north on Jl. Raya Uluwatu.

Public transportation options are limited, so a private vehicle is recommended.

Best Time to Visit

For the best experience, try to visit on weekdays when the beach is less crowded. Early mornings are great for surfing, while late afternoons offer spectacular sunset views. Avoid visiting during the rainy season (November to March) as the weather can be unpredictable and the currents stronger.

Entrance Fee

The entrance fee for Dreamland Beach is typically around 2,000 IDR (approximately $0.15 USD) per person. This fee is supposedly for beach clean-up, although some visitors have noted that the beach cleanliness doesn't always reflect this charge.

Timings of Dreamland Beach

Dreamland Beach is generally open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it's best to visit during daylight hours for safety reasons, especially given the strong currents and lack of lifeguards.
