Nyang-Nyang Beach: A Complete & Honest Guide for Couples [2025]

If quiet walks in the sunset and just relaxing on an empty beach are what you’re after, then you’ll love to visit Nyang-Nyang Beach.

Vaibhav Surana

18/02/2025

Nyang-Nyang Beach is probably one of the most secluded beaches in South Bali. And why that is the case will become evident when you set foot on the beach. Bereft of any proper signage along the road and a parking lot that requires a 30-minute drive down a hillside, it certainly takes effort to get to the beach. But the surroundings make it well worth the trouble: with lush cliffs on one side and a 1.5km long beach with white sand, it’s a jackpot for those looking for a remote place devoid of crowds and the hustle and bustle of usual Bali tourist places. And to add an interesting trivia, the place is also home to the remains of a rusting shipwreck—you can find remains of an old ship right from the shoreline; it’s a great spot for capturing photos.

So, if you’re considering adding the beach to your couples’ trip itinerary, you’re making the right choice. As we said above, Nyang-Nyang Beach is well known for its remote location and relatively uncrowded atmosphere. And this makes it just the right option for couples: the empty, long coastline, with its deep blue waters and cliffs in the background, is perfect for some private time for couples.

Sounds great, right? Then jump to the sections below, and we’ll take you through a complete tour of everything Nyang-Nyang Beach in no time.

Every sightseeing/activity goes through a rigorous review process, including analysis of online reviews, on-ground visits, and validation by our Operations team. In other words, we bring you the best and most helpful reviews to help you plan your bookings.

  • Terrible: 3

Nyang-Nyang Beach is rightly praised as a paradise for people looking for a quiet, secluded trip on a Bali beach. While getting to the place itself involves a significant effort, for many visitors, it was well worth it in the end. You can also find a couple of warungs at the beach, ensuring you’re never out of snacks or refreshments.

Now, don't get us wrong—there are definitely some criticisms about the place, but they are nowhere near the praise. On the whole, though, it’s a place that’s well-appreciated and loved by most people. So if you’re on the fence about visiting the place, this is your signal. At 30 Sundays, we can’t help but recommend Nyang Nyang Beach enough to you.

What Did Visitors Like About Nyang-Nyang Beach?

Aerial view of Nyang-Nyang Beach
Nyang-Nyang Beach

The visitors liked many things about the beach, but some things were clearly praised more. Here they are:

• Unspoiled Landscape: With giant and beautiful cliffs on one side and the deep blue sea with its strong waves on the other, Nyang-Nyang Beach is a unique tourist destination, unlike others. And that’s precisely what captured the attention of many visitors here. That and its clean and quiet environment, untouched by the large crowds you’d find in other parts of Bali.

• Peaceful Environment: As we said above, it’s not easy to get here. The lack of proper signage, remote location, and challenging parking—all add up to driving many possible tourists away. And as it turns out, this remoteness is precisely what turns it into a quiet and tranquil paradise, offering solitude to individual and couple visitors alike.

• Surfing and Paragliding: Besides its eerie quietness, the other thing that will catch your attention as soon as you set foot on the beach will be its surfers. While the beach current is extremely strong, and it certainly offers no lifeguards, you will always find a few adventure geeks fearlessly surfing through the place.

• Stunning Views and Sunsets: The beach offers almost otherworldly panoramic views, and with its relatively empty settings, it is an even more attractive option for spending the day. It’s no wonder, then, that this makes it an excellent place for photography as well.

• Unique Features: With its white, beautiful sand and natural reef, you’ll find the beach to be a delight to your eyes. The coastline is long and serene, where you can sometimes spot local farmers engrossed in their work.

• Clean and Uncrowded: Because of its remote nature, the place is free of trash and litter that’s otherwise a given in more popular tourist destinations. It’s really clean, and you’ll enjoy your time there.

What Did Visitors Dislike About Nyang-Nyang Beach?

While it's a fantastic beach, and it definitely stands out from other beaches in Bali, many things can be improved. From the ease of access to the lack of basic amenities, visitors have complained about many things, such as:

• Difficult Access: Its remoteness comes at a cost. If there were a competition for the most challenging place to reach in South Bali, Nyang-Nyang Beach might be a clear winner. For example, the parking itself would take you a 30-minute descent, which is wildly unjustified. The lack of clear road signs is another drawback that turns off many travelers. With the required steep and long walks, it's definitely a difficult proposition for people with mobility issues.

• Lack of Amenities: While a couple of warungs are located near the beach, showers and toilets are not available, which shocked and angered many visitors.

• Unsuitable for Swimming: The lack of lifeguards, combined with the strong beach currents, makes the whole place wholly unsuitable and troublesome for swimming. This can be a severe letdown for travelers looking to enjoy their stay.

• Inaccessibility for Certain Groups: Its remote access makes things difficult for the ancient and young. The steep walk involved will also cause difficulties for those with mobility issues.

• Construction Work: The place is quiet due to the lack of crowds, but at times, you might encounter construction and other local activities happening near the beach. And that can be a significant source of nuisance.

• Difficulty in Locating: While its lack of proper signage successfully turns off many from visiting the place altogether, finding it can be a bitter experience for those who are determined to come here.

• No Lifeguards: As we said above, this beach has no lifeguards. So, you’ll be on your own during your swimming sessions. This was a big concern for many visitors here, too, especially with the strong currents at the beach.

Pro-Tips to Keep in Mind While Visiting Nyang-Nyang Beach

If you've read this far, you already have some idea about the place. However, it’s not enough. You must also know the details, which can only be known from real-life experience. Lucky for you, we’ve covered them all for you.

Here are the top things to keep in mind while visiting Nyang-Nyang Beach in Bali:

• Prepare for a Hike: Ensure you come prepared with proper footwear and other critical gear. Getting to the beach is quite a trek, and it's also potentially dangerous.

• Pack Essentials: Make sure you bring your essential food, as you won’t find many options at this place. You'll need to get everything yourself, from food and drinks to towels and other accessories.

• Swimming Caution: Swimming at the beach can be troublesome. Given the strong currents and the lack of guards, we highly recommend you avoid swimming or surfing there. Although you’ll find a few surfers here and there, know that they generally tend to be pros, so you shouldn’t try to follow them.

• Timing is Key: The sunsets at the beach are incredible and can make things especially enjoyable for couples. Who doesn’t like sunsets on a remote beach, after all? It’s also popular among campers as a great place to hold bonfires under clear stars at night. Time your visit correctly, and you can enjoy these and tons of other activities at the beach, too.

• Stay Alert: You might encounter monkeys near the hilltop restaurant at the start of your walk to the beach. Make sure you hide your food and other items like caps or phones and definitely don’t try to provoke them. Basically, just leave the animals in peace, and you’ll be good to go as well.

• Know Your Limits: This beach is not recommended for elderly visitors or those with mobility issues due to the 510 steps leading to the beach.

Is It Overcrowded at Nyang-Nyang Beach?

One of Nyang-Nyang Beach's most appealing aspects is its uncrowded nature. Due to its relative remoteness and challenging access, the beach remains pleasantly secluded. Visitors consistently report that the beach is calm and not crowded; typically, only 10-15 people are present at any time.

This makes it significantly less crowded than the main beaches in Uluwatu, offering a peaceful retreat for those seeking solitude.

Is Nyang-Nyang Beach Expensive?

Good news for budget-conscious travelers - Nyang-Nyang Beach is quite affordable! There's no cost to enter the beach, which is a great start. If you're looking for transportation, a moped service is available for 25,000 IDR one way. For those wanting shade, umbrellas can be rented for 50,000 IDR, or you might be able to haggle it down to 40,000 IDR. Parking is also wallet-friendly at just 2,000 IDR.

Umbrella rentals are reasonably priced, and the shop charges a small fee for water. Overall, visitors found the prices at Nyang-Nyang Beach to be very affordable.

How Is the Local Staff at Nyang-Nyang Beach?

There isn’t much information about the local staff at Nyang-Nyang Beach, likely due to its undeveloped nature. However, one visitor mentioned that a waiter failed to provide clear directions to the beach.

This suggests that the beach might not have a dedicated staff presence, which aligns with its reputation as a secluded and relatively untouched location.

Is It Couple-Friendly?

Nyang-Nyang Beach is a dream come true for couples seeking a romantic getaway. Its secluded nature and quiet atmosphere make it ideal for those looking for privacy and intimacy. Many visitors describe it as a perfect spot for couples seeking solitude, away from the crowds and noise of more popular beaches.

The stunning views and beautiful sunsets add to the romantic ambiance, making it a great place for couples to relax and enjoy each other's company.

Is It Family-Friendly?

Unfortunately, Nyang-Nyang Beach is not particularly family-friendly, especially for families with young children or elderly members. The main issue is the steep and dangerous track leading to the beach, which includes 510 stairs. This makes it challenging and potentially unsafe for children, elderly individuals, or anyone with mobility issues. The beach is also not accessible for those with disabilities.

Additionally, the strong currents and rocky shoreline make swimming difficult and potentially dangerous. Therefore, while it's a beautiful spot, It’s not recommended for families seeking an easy, safe beach experience.

How's the Food at Nyang-Nyang Beach?

If you plan to visit Nyang-Nyang Beach, knowing there are low to no food options on-site is crucial. Some visitors consistently reported the absence of shops, shacks, cafes, or restaurants on the beach or in its immediate vicinity. A few, however, have noted the presence of a couple of warungs. This lack of variety in food facilities means you'll need to come prepared with snacks and drinks if you plan to spend time at the beach.

While this might be inconvenient for some, it contributes to the beach's unspoiled and natural character.

Other Activities to Do Close to Nyang-Nyang Beach
